How to Clear UPSC IAS: IAS, which stands for Indian Administrative Service, is one of the 24 prestigious services in India. Every year UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts the entrance exam CSE (Civil Service Examination) for selecting the eligible Indian candidates for various Civil Services like IPS IFS. Among these 24 services, IAS is the most prestigious and popular post for which every appearing candidate wish to get selected.

UPSC is India’s central authorised agency for conducting the various Civil Service Exam – IPS, IFS, CDS, NDA, combined Medical Service Exams etc. UPSC Civil Service Exams are one of the toughest exam in world having success rate of 0.1 to 0.3 only.

How To Clear UPSC IAS Exam (Civil Services Test)?

Long Term Strategy: Make a long-term strategy to clear the Pre and Main exam, don’t be nervous if you didn’t qualified it in the first attempt, ask the IAS Crackers how they fought till the last chance and cracked it finally. With 2 or 3 months study, you can’t make it possible to clear, you’ll have to study 9-10 months continuously, strictly following the exam pattern and syllabus, then you’ll get the enough confidence for final selection.

Though there are the candidates who studied just for a little time (5 to 6 months) and made it possible to reach to the IAS Chair but everyone do not have the extraordinary mind.

Focus: Keep your mind focused while preparing for the UPSC CSE. Without focus you prepare for 3-4-5 years, it won’t be as fruitful as study of 1 year with focus only on IAS. Just forget the everything else for sometime, surely they would come back if you become an IAS Officer.

Follow Exam Pattern and Syllabus Strictly

Following Syllabus is a key strategy to clear any exam, UPSC Prelims consist two papers of 200 marks each –

  • Paper – 1
  • Paper – 2

Both the papers include questions from General Studies.

UPSC IAS Prelims paper is of qualifying nature, marks obtained in this won’t counted for final selection but without clearing this, you can’t be eligible for the UPSC Mains.

UPSC IAS Mains includes 9 papers, out of which 2 are of qualifying nature and marks of 7 papers will be counted for final selection obtained out of 1750.

UPSC IAS Interview would be conducted for candidates qualified in Mains. Interview carry 275 marks.

There are many books available in the market to crack the Pre and Mains Exam but trust on the authorised publication like Arihant, TMH, Manorama Year Book, India Year Book, Oxford, R.S. Aggarwal etc.

Mock Tests: Take the help of mock tests, it’ll help you to overcome from the stressed environment of Examination and you’ll be able to test your knowledge on different subjects individually. You will be able to take the decision that which question is to attempt and which not.

News Papers: Read News Papers daily because it helps you to gain the daily knowledge of the world, specially India. You come to know what is happening around you in the world, it makes you aware about your surroundings and most importantly you’ll need less books of Current GK in Hindi.

IAS Coaching: You can take help of a good coaching center for guidance but keep this in mind that coaching center won’t make you study hard, you’ll have to study on your own with your mind. It’s necessary to have mentor but it should be for guidance not for wasting your time.
